Sarah: First Post, 14June10

Hello All!,

It’s me Sarah, One of the “chosen ones” (as I like to call it) for the Offscreen HSBC Student Expedition 2010!

Man, I am excited but before I start to talk about how excited I am I should pretty much start by introducing myself!

My name is Sarah Al-Derham, I am an 18 year old Qatari girl a fresh highschool graduate from Qatar Educational Complex former President of the Student Council soon a freshmen at Northwestern University in Qatar majoring in Communication and also thinking of minoring in Politics and International Relations!

That’s just a brief introduction about me if you wanna know more you can find me on Twitter , Flickr and also Blog Spot. If you wanna add me on Facebook just simply click the link on my name on top.

Okay, SO! Now that I`m done with the introduction, I have no idea where to start from now!
I guess I`ll start off with what Kate from the Offscreen team in London said in the email:

“Tell us about you – your life in Qatar, your dreams, thoughts, feelings, ideas, plans, etc. ”

I live a life many of you may find normal but to me, every new day is an adventure. Every time I open my eyes to a new day and take a long look around I feel grateful to Allah for giving me the chance to live again amongst the people I love, the people who supported me and cared for me.

When I started off by saying that everyday is an adventure I mean that everyday is new, is different, is unique, is something to remember… so lets just talk about not the best or worst but the normal things that happen to me daily

So close your eyes and imagine, waking up daily to one of two: deafening silence or deafening noise…OH! Did I mention I have 4 sisters, yes thats the reason. If you live at my house you never enjoy quiet mornings unless you stay home on a school day. You all may feel kind-of bad for me but save you’re pity for someone else because this is heaven to me, this is what I got used too, My sisters voices of screaming, fighting, arguing, laughing, talking or just the sound of their breath is the energy that fuels me and what starts the machine is a morning kiss from my best friend; my father

Afternoons are quite the same, If I wasn’t in bed bbm-ing (chatting on blackberry messanger) I’d probably be painting or writing (sometimes reading) or on my laptop searching for new music or just updating my twitter/blog/facebook. If I were to go out, It would probably be to go get something I might need or Saturday afternoons at my grandfathers house (Beait Baba Hassan) to sit with two of my amazing aunts. I don’t like going out unless if I have something to do (time is valuable, why waste it in traffic) Weird I know!
You must be thinking if I actually do have fun or hang out with friends, well yes I do we visit each other a lot!
Actually, My bestfriend Ghanima ( Ghanoom ) is the one that told me about the offscreen and encouraged me to “Go For It”

Evenings…one word: totally UNPREDICTABLE !

So I guess I’ve talked too much, and didn’t leave anything for the next posts< typical Sarah!
Looks like I`m going to have to say goodbye now,
Stay tuned for the next posts which is about me again talking about my dreams, thoughts, feelings, ideas and plans, til we meet again in Journey to the UK :)

I`ll leave you to some photos and a video (Btw; You can find the photos on my flickr and blog)

For some reason this song has been stuck in my head all morning!

Here are some photos of my photography from my favorite album: My Black&White Set

Stay Safe Stay Strong,
Respectfully,
S. A. Al-Derham
